Description of Position:
This multi-faceted Technologist participates in the delivery of field and laboratory exercises and field camp activities for the Ecosystem Management program, Common Semesters and other SENRS programs as needed. This involves planning and coordinating learning activities including international trips, booking and driving college and rental vehicles to transport equipment and students, organizing daily work schedules, preparing equipment and supplies, supervising students while on field trips and assisting faculty. The Technologist trains and oversees student workers who assist in supporting field activities and program operations. The incumbent will also test, evaluate, purchase and maintain the inventory of program equipment, collections and supplies. The Technologist assists with the development, coordination and maintenance of lab health and safety procedures and protocols and ensures that safety procedures are followed. The incumbent also provides technical expertise in specialized equipment, demonstrates theories and principles for students, and supports faculty with the evaluation of written and practical assignments.

-Relevant combination of education and experience, and a diploma in Environmental studies and/or an Ecosystem management related field.
-Lab and practical field experience related to environmental studies.
-Working knowledge of, and ability to apply standard scientific methods, perform sampling techniques and protocols, and biological and chemical monitoring. Knowledge of associated safety protocols.
-Working knowledge of principles of experimental design and scientific research methodology
-Experience in identifying a wide variety of flora and fauna by visual, auditory and other means.
-Experience troubleshooting and repairing a variety of technical equipment and gear in classroom, lab or field situations.
-Experience presenting information in a training or educational setting,
-Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills, and the ability to exercise good judgement.
-Demonstrated leadership and team skills.
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as good computer skills.
-Ability to travel and willingness to work in difficult environmental conditions.
-Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract.
